Hi, I’m Lauren.
I’m a Fort Worth based artist, typically working in oil paint. Although I have spent many years in the art world, it has been primarily in education. Only recently have I been able to pursue my own work, and I am excited to continue putting long boxed-up ideas onto canvas.
I was born in Colorado, pit stopped in Virginia, then spent most of my life in Kingwood, Texas (Northeast Houston). I went to TCU, where I received my degree in Advertising/Public Relations (Strategic Communication), with minors in Studio Art and Psychology. Shortly after graduating I met my now-husband, changed careers to teaching art, we eventually ended back up in Fort Worth where we have been for 7 years.
I started posted my art students progress on social media, and it led me to create my art course/sketchbook This is Not a Sketchbook, It’s an Art Class. It eventually grew to the point I had to make a choice - teaching, or business. It was hard to leave, but eventually I made the choice that would give me more time with my family, and more time with my art.
The past few years I have been exploring western art, with a particular interest in Fort Worth. I plan to explore the female role in the modern western art world, visually exploring the connection between femininity and “traditional” gender roles juxtaposed with the tough as nails working women in the south west culture. I also have plans to create a body of work exploring the tradition of giving flowers for a wide range of occasions… more on that soon.
